Arenga

20 species. Arenga is found through tropical South Asia to New Guinea and northern Australia. It has a wide range of variation in size, landscaping uses, and growth requirements. Some species are very small understory palms, while the larger members of the genus are massive palms that grow best in open areas. Arenga pinnata is cultivated throughout southeast Asia as a source of palm sugar and palm wine. Juice of Arenga fruits can cause severe skin irritation.
